Internet Obsessed.

I found this picture on Tumblr and it made me think loads about how obsessed we all are with the internet. We even panic when we go out somewhere for a bit and there’s no WiFi or phone signal. How did we use to cope without phones, social networking and the internet?

We rely on it so much in life to cope and keep in touch, this picture made me think we should be living our lives not updating our Facebook and Twitter pages with pointless statuses about what we’re doing, we should just be doing it and enjoying it. I’m a big social network user myself and I often think how on earth would I cope without the internet and my mobile phone, which is sad really, that I feel like without it I wouldn’t know how to cope. I do think we would all lead much healthier fulfilling lives without so much internet use but at the same time I love the internet and have been bought up in a generation where the internet is necessary and a big part of our lives whether it’s for work or entertainment. For example, if the power goes out, if I don’t have internet connection on my phone, I suddenly feel lost, bored and don’t know what to do with myself.

I could shut down all my social networking sites I use and live an internet free life, but in this day and age without those things I’d feel so unconnected with everyone and everything! I’d like to think I could go a day without internet but I think I’d find it quite hard, which is awful really, trouble is when I feel even slightly bored I find myself scrolling through Facebook, twitter and Tumblr etc to keep myself entertained.  As much as I enjoy being able to look at my Facebook and twitter from my phone, I do think we would be better off not having internet on our phones. We spend so much time checking our phones and its just another time for us to be revolving are lives around the internet, as if we don’t do that enough at home and work, so we also need to have an internet source in our pockets when we’re not near a computer. How ironic I am talking about the amount we use the internet, whilst using it to write a blog post!

I love to look through photo albums of when I was younger reminiscing over all the good times I’ve had and the moments I was too young to remember. We no longer make photo albums full of cute photos that had to be taken to a shop to be developed, we store them all on our computers and upload them to social networking sites. I remember having a favourite video or DVD when I was younger, but not many people want to buy CD’s and DVD’s any more as you can listen and watch so much via internet, I wonder if DVD’s and CD’s will fade out in the future because we can watch it all online? I think the internet has provided us with some very  helpful uses, but at the same time I think it has made us reliant on it.  So do we need to accept that we are a generation internet obsessed people or should we take our own steps to living a less technology based life?

There would be a lot of technology withdrawals. Would they need to be medicated? This made me laugh. Thanks for sharing.

    Merry Christmas.

We used to manage, funny how we forget the times we had to go to the phone box to arrange a night out! It’s sad but true, what you are saying.
