A Visit To Bournemouth Vintage Emporium

IMG_0775

I was very kindly invited to attend a press, bloggers and antique traders evening at a new shop which has recently opened called ‘Bournemouth Vintage Emporium’. As you may know I love all things vintage so I knew this event would be right up my street. You may remember a blog post I wrote called ‘Vintage Love’ about a place called ‘Molly’s Den’ you can read that HERE. This shop is like Molly’s Den but a lot smaller and more manageable to look around. Molly’s Den can be quite overwhelming so if you don’t fancy taking up most a day looking around the nooks and crannies of that warehouse, this shop is perfect for you, its not too big but not small.

Its got lots of little traders shops filled with beautiful furniture, cute ornaments, weird but wonderful items and, things that may not be vintage but are just lovely. It’s got a lovely atmosphere inside and its the kind of place you can walk around a few times and spot more and more things each time you go round. Next door they have a tea room where you can sit in a cute setting and have some refreshments, always handy when your shopping till you drop. I loved walking around and snapping pictures of everything because there was so many items I loved. Although my camera broke and I had to use my iPhone, so sorry if that’s affected the quality of the pictures!

The two pictures below are by lovely trader with the business name ‘Nouveau’. She up-cycles old furniture and gives them a new lease of life! You can take your furniture to her or she can pick it up for you, take it away and customise it however you want! How gorgeous are these pieces of furniture? I would love them in my bedroom! Got some old furniture that’s looking worse for where? don’t throw it out, let it have a make over or sale her items to up-cycle and be loved by someone else! Links will be added soon!

The four pictures below are from another trader I got talking to, who’s dress I fell in love with, I admire her vintage, quirky style and items she was selling. Her shop name is ‘Bobby-Alice Vintage, she works hard searching high and low for beautiful vintage dresses like the one shes wearing. So if you have a special occasion where you want a vintage glamorous, individual dress she’s your gal. She doesn’t just sale dresses she has a wide range of clothing items and other bits and bobs. Where you can find her: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bobbyalicevintage or Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/bobbyalicevintage.

100 Blog Posts: A Thank You Message

                                                         100 blog posts

So this very blog post will be my 100th, which isn’t really a big deal but it seemed an appropriate moment to talk to you guys! Starting this blog has been one of the best decisions I have made, I didn’t think it would have such a positive outcome! I have realised how much I love to write, design little pictures for blog posts and interact with people who have taken the time to read what I have written. Since writing about my OCD and Depression I have interacted and had lots of support from other OCD sufferers via social networking. Before this I had barely spoken to anyone with OCD, I had  just read about it on Google, so I am very thankful to have been connected with these people! I wanted this post to just be a MASSIVE thank you to anyone who has ever read, liked, commented, shared and followed my blog posts. Some days I think what I write about is pointless and no one cares, then I get a new follower, a comment or a tweet etc and it spurs me on to keep writing! It really does mean a lot to me when someone follows me or gives me feed back on a blog post!

thank you

I also wanted to say please do make blog post requests I want to write about subjects that are important to YOU! You can make suggestions or ask me questions via Tumblr in my ask box you don’t have to have a Tumblr account to ask questions. My Facebook page and Twitter are also open to anyone who has any questions or requests, so feel free! I also have BlogLovin’ where you can sign in with your Facebook and follow any blogs you like. Which if you don’t have a WordPress account makes it easy to keep up to date with blog posts and other bloggers from different blogging platforms!

Spring Walkies

I am the lazy person that when someone says to me ‘lets go for a walk’ I turn my nose up at it. I don’t know if it’s just a lazy habit I’ve gotten into since suffering with depression but I just think ‘I can’t be bothered, how boring’. On bank holiday Monday my mum said she wanted to go for a walk with everyone down at a place called ‘eye bridge’ near where I live, as everyone else in the house was going and I’d be home alone bored if I didn’t I decided to go. It was lovely spring weather and I am glad I went, I enjoyed the views, watching my dog run around, seeing some animals and taking pretty pictures. I need to say yes to more outings rather than automatically saying no, once I’m out I usually have a good time. I took full advantage of the beautiful weather and views and took some pictures, I am no photographer but I am pretty proud of how they turned out. I haven’t had much of a chance to use my camera for taking photos of things other than beauty products etc, so it was nice to experiment with my camera and taking photos of things I don’t usually!

The views from standing on the bridge!

DSCF1241

DSCF1248

My beautiful pooch enjoying the walk and enjoying splashing around in the muddiest puddles she could find, white fur and mud don’t mix well! I always think she looks so beautiful in the sun and I love watching her mischievously run into mud and try to run into the river, she’s too cute ♥

DSCF1249

I saw this heron flying around at various points during our walk and I really wanted to take a picture and I finally was able to and although it’s probably not the best picture, I am so pleased with it!

DSCF1250

I got a little snap happy when it came to the ducks, I think the male ducks are so pretty, no offence to any female ducks out there, your pretty to!

DSCF1255

When I was taking the below picture I thought ‘well this is rubbish you can’t even see the colours and detail on the duck’ but I actually love how this picture turned out with all the shadows and the slight silhouette effect of the duck and its reflection in the water!

DSCF1256

Action shot of a duck doing its duck thang (haha). This picture was a total accident, I didn’t even realise the duck moved until after!

DSCF1258

The moral of the story is be more adventurous, stop saying no to things before you have given them a chance, 9 times out of 10 you will enjoy it once you get there.

Vintage Love

Vintage Love

So I thought today I’d write a blog post on my love for vintage things, at the weekend I went to a place called ‘Mollys Den’ near where I live, it’s basically a huge warehouse full of different sellers vintage, or vintage looking furniture, ornaments, jewelry, records you name it they sale it! The name of it ‘Mollys Den’ is exactly what it’s like its like a huge den full of hidden, quirky weird and wonderful treasures, its huge and takes ages to look around and take it all in, but I always want to look around the whole thing so I don’t miss any hidden gems. I would love to have a house and be able to afford to fill it with unique furniture and accessories from there, there is just something I love about shabby chic and vintage things, there so cute and its like owning a little piece of history.

As I have mentioned before I have recently become obsessed with fawns (deers) especially vintage ornamental ones. I went to Mollys Den before and specifically looked long and hard for a vintage deer, but I have never found one I liked enough or wasn’t to expensive. This time I found one, I wasn’t sure it was what I wanted at first because there was a long hole in the log behind where the deer was sitting and unless I had a use for it, I didn’t really like it. But my mum said I can put little flowers in water so they stick out the top and as you can see I did exactly that with some orchids. I am very happy with it and it was a bargain price of £4, can’t go wrong!

DSCF1089

This weekend also I bought a vintage looking notebook, it’s not vintage at all, it’s from Tesco’s! But I thought I would share it with you because the lady on the front looks very retro and like someone who worked in an airport in the 1950’s, which is one of my favourite eras, my mum said I seem to like all the 1950’s bits of bobs! Well I’ve been meaning to get a notebook to write blog ideas down and to do lists to keep me organised and this is right up my street, not going to lie I’m pretty excited about writing in it, sad I know!

DSCF1091

Seeing vintage furniture and other things inspire me to want to up cycle old furniture and put my own stamp on them like I’ve seen in Mollys Den! I think they can take your imagination on a ride imagining where its been before you owned it, like I said earlier like a little piece of history, at first this made me uneasy ‘who owned this?’ ‘is it clean?’ etc but I’m learning its easy enough to clean an item up and make it your own and to embrace its history.  Here are some of the other vintage things I have in my room, I don’t know whether there genuinely vintage but they look it and I love them. Some were in the loft and my mum didn’t want them so I adopted them and others are from my childhood which I once thought was babyish but I now think there just quirky and bring me good memories!
