August 2014 Birchbox Review

This months Birchbox theme is ‘Away We Go’ celebrating the fun of summer holidays away and adventures, very appropriate considering everyone seems to have been or are going on holiday recently! The items inside this months Birchbox are meant to be perfect for you during your travels! As any past Birchbox subscribers may know the products usually come in a cute Birchbox bag, but this time the products came in an even cuter mini toiletries bag, perfect to put your travel minis in! If you like the look of this months Birchbox, head on over to the website and order yours before the end of the month and see what exciting treats you receive.

Liaison De Parfum Resist Me Eau De Parfum 2ml Fullsize: £105.00

The first product I received was this perfume sample, excuse the ripped bit on the packaging, I opened it to smell it before I took the pictures! I like the fact it comes in a mini spray bottle its perfect to pop into your handbag or suitcase to take away with you! I love the fact that this is a really luxurious perfume full size at £105.00, it’s always nice being able to try samples of luxury products. Although I must say I’m not a fan of the scent, it’s very spicy with notes of bergamot, lemon, leather and lavender. I usually go for sweet and fresh scents. I will be passing this onto someone who does enjoy the scent of this.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Refreshing Bath Shower Gel 25ml Fullsize: £7.15

I’ve actually already used this product up. I love receiving bath products its something I’m always going to use as I love a good bubble bath. It was a nice product and I enjoyed using it but I can’t say I noticed anything too special. The scent is a very subtle fresh, spa scent. It contains minerals found in the springs of the dead sea that Birchbox says leaves you feeling ‘revitalised, relaxed and rejuvenated’. Would I pay £7.15 for the full size of this product, I’m not sure I would, because there are cheaper bubble baths I feel the same about, but I did enjoy trying the product.

Number 4 Luminere D’hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect 30 ml Fullsize: £20.00

This product is a multi use hair product, Birchbox says it’s ‘Strengthening, repairing, de tangling, great at taming flyaway ends as well as nourishing and protecting’!! I’m not a huge hair care girl but I am looking forward to giving more products ago. I’ve never tried a product like this just because my hairs already too soft sometimes and isn’t ever very knotty, but I will definitely try this out for when my hairs in need of some TLC or when I’ve had my hair shoved up all day and brushing through it hurts, hopefully this will help me out! It’s also sulphate and paraben free, which is perfect for coloured hair like mine.

Wild About Beauty Powder Eyeshadow £13.00

This was the product I was most excited about, I am a make up addict and love trying new make up products. I have never heard of this brand, it was founded by makeup artist Kim Jacob and TV personality Louise Rednapp. I love the packaging and embossed be in the eyeshadow, I also love the colour, it’s a beautiful bronze, copper colour. Above is a picture of this on my eyes with a shade called ‘Trick’ from the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette over the top, which is a very sparkly copper but without a base isn’t very opaque, this colour is perfect underneath or just as a pretty on it its own.

The Proposal By Tasmina Perry One Chapter Sample Fullsize: £7.99

The lifestyle item I received this month was a one chapter book sample. I’ve never heard or seen a book sample before but I think it’s a really cute idea. I’m not a massive reader but I’m definitely going to give this chapter a read and see if I like the sound of it. I think this is a nice thing to receive.

Lush Bath Bomb Review: Granny Takes A Dip

During May I purchased and received rather a lot of Lush products as it was my Birthday. Granny Takes A Dip is just one of the many I’ve tried recently and its a fairly new bath bomb to lush, I’ve used two of these so far and I really liked it. This bath bomb is very big and could  easily be broken in half if you wanted to get two uses out of the product. Lush says the lemon scent makes this bath bomb refreshing and uplifting, while the pepper is warming and clarifying and the ginger is naturally anti-bacterial and also uplifting, perfect to pop in your bath during this hot summer weather! I can’t say I am the biggest fan of the scent just because I’m more of a sweet scent lover, but once diluted in the bath I like it.

As you can see in the pictures it creates beautiful rings and swirls of colour as it fizzes in the bath, which is one of the main reasons I love this bath bomb (its the simple things, I tell you)!  Unlike some bath bombs this one is a slow fizzer making your bath bomb experience last longer. Once this bath bombs finished dissolving in the bath it turns your water a deep purple colour, who wants clear bath water anyway?! I would definitely recommend this bath bomb if you enjoy seeing pretty, tie die esc patterns in your bath as much as I do!

Have you tried ‘Granny Takes A Dip’ in your bath yet? What did you think of it?

July 2014 Birchbox Review

This months Birchbox theme was ‘sun, sea and sand’ very fitting as its summer and the sun has been paying us brits quite the visit this July! You can still get yours up and until the 31st of July so if you like what you see head on over to the Birchbox website to find out more HERE.

Here is what I got in my box this month…

I have never heard of this brand before so I have no expectations on what it will be like. Body butter is something I always need and love so its a good thing for me to receive. Birchbox says this contains lots of moisturising ingredients like organic aloe, shea butter and raspberry butter for dry skin and seaweed extract contains natural skin-firming peptides. The scent of this is lavender so I think this would be perfect to use after a hot bath in the evening just before bed.

I’ve only recently started using an eye cream and so far I’ve only tried one, so I’m looking forward to trying a new one. Birchbox says that this eye creams i3 in one formula, softens, smooths and brightens your eye area. With ingredients like Roman chamomile, lemon, cucumber oil, witch hazel, anti-oxidant spruce knot, virgin coconut, rosehip oil and carrot oil. Sounds good to me! I also think this is a generous size considering you only need to apply a tiny amount of eye cream!

I expect I will use this product if not, someone within the family will. Since having dyed my hair red I have been using shampoo’s for coloured hair, those who have had red hair will know how quickly it fades. It says ‘don’t expect it to lather’ on the Birchbox website which makes me think I won’t like this. Although it’s probably not the case, when a shampoo doesn’t lather up I feel like it’s not cleaning my hair probably. It’s not a bad thing to receive if you’re not bothered about using colour shampoo! I’ve said this before and I will say it again, I like the fact this is in a bottle, I can’t stand sachet samples, so that’s a plus!

I love receiving make up in my beauty boxes so I was very happy to receive this. I would have maybe prefered one of the more natural shades but I do quite like this purple colour. It’s very bold and bright shade so I will have to be feeling a bit daring when I wear this, it felt lovely and moisturising when I applied it to my lips and has a minty scent.

I don’t have a picture of this product because I drank it before I took my pictures (whoops). I love vita coco’s normal coconut water so I was quite excited to try this as I’ve not tried any of their flavoured coconut water before. It was okay but I don’t think I would pick it to drink again, I prefer the normal one if I’m honest. It tastes a bit like a creamy lemonade like cream soda but lemony (great description Anna)! I love receiving life style items in my boxes so even though I wasn’t the biggest fan after trying this I still like that I got to try it.

I have yet to be REALLY disappointed with a Birchbox, I think they pick good products and give generous samples and I look forward to receiving my box every month!

Current Nail Polish Favourite

Excuse my weird claw hand above.

Just a quick one today but I wanted to mention a nail polish I have been wearing non stop. I have recently discovered a love for Essie nail polishes. I never had a very high opinion of them before, they just didn’t seem to last on my nails. Since using them with my favourite Barry M Top Coat which you can read about HERE, its been lasting well. I love how quick and fast the wide brushes make painting my nails, one brush stroke covers the whole nail! This gorgeous pinky but more purple shade is called ‘Splash Of Grenadine’ might I add I love Essie’s creative nail polish names! After seeing YouTuber and blogger Essie Button talk about this shade, I really want to give it a try. It’s such a pretty colour and its definitely not just any average pinky purple nail polish!!

Do you have any Essie nail polish recommendations?

Benefit Gimme Brow Gel

If you’ve been reading my blog posts for a while, you may remember a blog post titled Lets Talk Brows all about my eyebrow routine. Since then my eyebrow routine has changed, I now fill in my brows using the Sleek MakeUp Brow Kit which I have really been enjoying. That’s not the product I want to talk about though, the product I am putting in the spot light for today’s blog post is the Benefit Gimme Brow Gel. I use this after I have filled in my eyebrows to set them in place, and define the hairs of my eye brows giving them a natural finish. The shade I bought is light/medium which is possibly slightly lighter than I could do with but I think once it set and with the powder and wax used in the sleek brow kit its fine.

I love how small and easy to use the brush is, before I was using the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara, which was ok but very difficult to be precise with as the brush was a lot larger and an odd shape. Benefits little brow brush seems to grab on to your eyebrow hairs making it easy to create defined, natural and set in place eyebrows! The formula of this product is waterproof, which I have yet to test out, but still at least you know your eyebrows are there to stay for the day! I would really recommend this product if your looking to give your eyebrows some TLC. I was lucky enough to have saved up enough boots points to buy this with and I am so glad I did!

A Visit To Bournemouth Vintage Emporium

I was very kindly invited to attend a press, bloggers and antique traders evening at a new shop which has recently opened called ‘Bournemouth Vintage Emporium’. As you may know I love all things vintage so I knew this event would be right up my street. You may remember a blog post I wrote called ‘Vintage Love’ about a place called ‘Molly’s Den’ you can read that HERE. This shop is like Molly’s Den but a lot smaller and more manageable to look around. Molly’s Den can be quite overwhelming so if you don’t fancy taking up most a day looking around the nooks and crannies of that warehouse, this shop is perfect for you, its not too big but not small.

Its got lots of little traders shops filled with beautiful furniture, cute ornaments, weird but wonderful items and, things that may not be vintage but are just lovely. It’s got a lovely atmosphere inside and its the kind of place you can walk around a few times and spot more and more things each time you go round. Next door they have a tea room where you can sit in a cute setting and have some refreshments, always handy when your shopping till you drop. I loved walking around and snapping pictures of everything because there was so many items I loved. Although my camera broke and I had to use my iPhone, so sorry if that’s affected the quality of the pictures!

Yep, that’s me modelling a sailor’s hat (haha)

The two pictures below are by lovely trader with the business name ‘Nouveau’. She up-cycles old furniture and gives them a new lease of life! You can take your furniture to her or she can pick it up for you, take it away and customise it however you want! How gorgeous are these pieces of furniture? I would love them in my bedroom! Got some old furniture that’s looking worse for where? don’t throw it out, let it have a make over or sale her items to up-cycle and be loved by someone else! Links will be added soon!

The four pictures below are from another trader I got talking to, who’s dress I fell in love with, I admire her vintage, quirky style and items she was selling. Her shop name is ‘Bobby-Alice Vintage, she works hard searching high and low for beautiful vintage dresses like the one shes wearing. So if you have a special occasion where you want a vintage glamorous, individual dress she’s your gal. She doesn’t just sale dresses she has a wide range of clothing items and other bits and bobs. Where you can find her: Facebook: or Instagram:

They even sale gorgeous wedding dresses, like the lovely girl is modelling above!

I would definitely recommend heading down to the store and taking a look around, its like a surprise you never know what item you will find and fall in love with!

June 2014 Birchbox Review

Another month another Birchbox.  For those of you who don’t know Birchbox is a company that offer subscription packs you can purchase and in return you get sent some full size or sample size products, to find out more click HERE. Don’t forget Birchbox have their very own shop on their website, where you can purchase items featured in their boxes! This month’s Birchbox is called ‘Global Strikers’ inspired by the World Cup and the Brazil colours where its being held!

Here is what I received in my box…

I was so excited to receive this item in this months box. I have heard so much about the beauty blender from various beauty YouTuber’s and bloggers, but had yet to give in and buy it. I don’t know why but applying my foundation with a sponge never appealed to me.  I think it’s because It reminds me of when I was a teenager and used them awful white sponges. This is quite pricey for a sponge so I had high hopes after hearing amazing things and I love that it comes with a solid cleanser, to clean the sponge with. This is best applied when damp and almost bouncing it along your skin to blend in your foundation. I used this once already and I must admit I quite liked it, is it better than my Real Techniques Buffing Brush? I don’t know. I definitely like how this pats the foundation into your skin rather than feeling like your just sliding it around your face, like it can do when your trying to cover a blemish with a brush (hope you understand what I mean)! It’s a huge thumbs up from me when it comes to this item Birchbox!!

I never get that excited over skin care samples and products just because I feel like you never get enough to fully try the product out, and also because I already have my skin care routine. Having said that Caudalie is a very expensive luxurious brand and this sample is a good size, so I will definitely be trying this and seeing what I think, its always good to branch out!

Body moisturisers are always a good thing to have and I like how generous this sample size is! Korres is another well known brand and I remember receiving a shower gel in this scent via Birchbox, not long ago so its cool that I  have the body milk to match. I gave this a sniff from the bottle and it smelt like a lovely creamy lemon scent, very refreshing for summer. Its a body milk so its lighter than a body butter, something light can be quite nice in the summer. I am looking forward to smelling like zesty lemon and hopefully feeling hydrated!

This is a cute little extra from Birchbox, I now have this on my keys!

This product is £55 for a full size recipe kit,  so you can make the product yourself with instructions, which is pretty cool but very expensive. I’m looking forward to trying this because for something to cost that much I feel like it has some high standards to reach! I’m not a huge fan of hair masks because I have very soft silky hair, and find its hard to do anything with and lacks volume when its to shiny.  I am looking forward to seeing what effects this has on my hair.  I think I will apply this after I’ve dyed my hair as a nice conditioning treatment.

I was quite happy to receive this product as I don’t actually own any O.P.I nail polishes and I’ve heard many good things about them! This is a mini size and a very pretty almost barbie pink, which wouldn’t be my first choice of colour but its a very summer appropriate and a very wearable shade. This months boxes included shades from either of the Brazil Beach Sandies Collection or the Copacababies Liquid Sand Collection.
