Decorating My Room | Ideas & Plans

In November me and my family moved from our house we’d been in for almost 7 years! The new house is somewhat old-fashioned when it comes to the decorating which means everything’s going to be decorated to our tastes. For someone like me who loves browsing home ware shops and buying home ware items this is prime opportunity for me to do both those things. My room as it is, isn’t to bad it has quaint floral wallpaper and fairly neutral paint and carpet.

I cannot wait to get fully stuck in and decorate my room with my taste in decor. I’d say my taste is a mixture of kitsch, anything cute, quirky or involving woodland animals. I also love the retro come modern look, with a hint of Scandinavian. I love scouring magazines and the internet for inspiration and home ware items, so I thought why not share my plans for my bedroom with you. Then when it’s all decorated show a before and after! Some of the products featured in this post I have already purchased ready for when my rooms decorated, others are things I would like to purchase and possibly add into my room, along with many other beautiful things I’ve found.

As you can see the colours I want to incorporate into my room are white, a mustardy, greeny yellow, light grey and dark grey. I’ve been seeing this yellow colour everywhere at the moment and I love how it looks, I think its perfect for a retro and Scandinavian room. It’s something quite different for me, as I’ve always gone for classic girly colours like pinks, purples as an accent colour in my rooms, but my style has changed a lot as I’ve gotten older.

I won’t be painting any walls in this shade instead I want to bring it in with accessories. I bought this gorgeous duvet set which you can see in the picture above or below. Its two-sided so you can mix it up and has  multiple patterns on it such scalloped lines and tiny flowers on it with all the colours I like, its perfect. I received  the panda cushion above for Christmas and I can’t wait to put it on my bed, not only is it cute, its quirky and his yellow bow tie goes perfect. I love the lampshade above it has a cut out pattern and copper on the inside. Copper is a big trend when it comes to home ware at the moment, and I’m a little obsessed. The bedside table above is simple and practical. Its got wire tidies up the legs of it, a shelf inside and its narrow which saves space!

I have bought two of these tri pod style lamps for my bedside tables, I love this style of lamp at the moment and the colour is again perfect.

Becuase my room is bigger than my old one, I’ve finally been able to have a dressing table. I wanted a retro one and was lucky my Nan no longer wanted her retro G-Plan one. I love the style and I’m planning on painting it white or light grey with darker grey drawes and changing the handles, I’ve been eyeing up some of the copper ones on Anthropologie.

I want to create a wall of quirky prints and different shape and style photo frames like the copper ones above. Which leads me on to the fox and alpaca prints above, I find them way too amusing and really like the look of them, I also received these for Christmas. The next two items are the Peg Boards, I love the concept of these but can’t decide between the yellow or white, there just a board with holes for little wooden peg like things, you put into the holes to hang things off. I want to hang this by my dressing table and hang all my necklaces and bits on there.

Another item which I think would look lovely on my dressing table is the copper tray with perfumes displayed on there. As I’ve said I’m rather fond of quirky things, which is probably why I like this succulent pineapple plant pot, I think its different and a great way to display a succulent. I would love to have some shelves where I can put this sort of thing on display, along with things like the Copper A, or candles in the white candle holders above, along with all my other decorative accessories.

I could go on forever adding things I am thinking of buying but I didn’t want to bore you or make this post too long. There so much I want to buy and do to my room and really create a space I love.

What do you think of my bedroom ideas? Let me know in the comments!

A Visit To Bournemouth Vintage Emporium

IMG_0775

I was very kindly invited to attend a press, bloggers and antique traders evening at a new shop which has recently opened called ‘Bournemouth Vintage Emporium’. As you may know I love all things vintage so I knew this event would be right up my street. You may remember a blog post I wrote called ‘Vintage Love’ about a place called ‘Molly’s Den’ you can read that HERE. This shop is like Molly’s Den but a lot smaller and more manageable to look around. Molly’s Den can be quite overwhelming so if you don’t fancy taking up most a day looking around the nooks and crannies of that warehouse, this shop is perfect for you, its not too big but not small.

Its got lots of little traders shops filled with beautiful furniture, cute ornaments, weird but wonderful items and, things that may not be vintage but are just lovely. It’s got a lovely atmosphere inside and its the kind of place you can walk around a few times and spot more and more things each time you go round. Next door they have a tea room where you can sit in a cute setting and have some refreshments, always handy when your shopping till you drop. I loved walking around and snapping pictures of everything because there was so many items I loved. Although my camera broke and I had to use my iPhone, so sorry if that’s affected the quality of the pictures!

The two pictures below are by lovely trader with the business name ‘Nouveau’. She up-cycles old furniture and gives them a new lease of life! You can take your furniture to her or she can pick it up for you, take it away and customise it however you want! How gorgeous are these pieces of furniture? I would love them in my bedroom! Got some old furniture that’s looking worse for where? don’t throw it out, let it have a make over or sale her items to up-cycle and be loved by someone else! Links will be added soon!

Her shop name is ‘Bobby-Alice Vintage, she works hard searching high and low for beautiful vintage dresses like the one shes wearing. So if you have a special occasion where you want a vintage glamorous, individual dress she’s your gal. She doesn’t just sale dresses she has a wide range of clothing items and other bits and bobs. Vintage Love

Vintage Love

So I thought today I’d write a blog post on my love for vintage things, at the weekend I went to a place called ‘Mollys Den’ near where I live, it’s basically a huge warehouse full of different sellers vintage, or vintage looking furniture, ornaments, jewelry, records you name it they sale it! The name of it ‘Mollys Den’ is exactly what it’s like its like a huge den full of hidden, quirky weird and wonderful treasures, its huge and takes ages to look around and take it all in, but I always want to look around the whole thing so I don’t miss any hidden gems. I would love to have a house and be able to afford to fill it with unique furniture and accessories from there, there is just something I love about shabby chic and vintage things, there so cute and its like owning a little piece of history.

As I have mentioned before I have recently become obsessed with fawns (deers) especially vintage ornamental ones. I went to Mollys Den before and specifically looked long and hard for a vintage deer, but I have never found one I liked enough or wasn’t to expensive. This time I found one, I wasn’t sure it was what I wanted at first because there was a long hole in the log behind where the deer was sitting and unless I had a use for it, I didn’t really like it. But my mum said I can put little flowers in water so they stick out the top and as you can see I did exactly that with some orchids. I am very happy with it and it was a bargain price of £4, can’t go wrong!

This weekend also I bought a vintage looking notebook, it’s not vintage at all, it’s from Tesco’s! But I thought I would share it with you because the lady on the front looks very retro and like someone who worked in an airport in the 1950’s, which is one of my favourite eras, my mum said I seem to like all the 1950’s bits of bobs! Well I’ve been meaning to get a notebook to write blog ideas down and to do lists to keep me organised and this is right up my street, not going to lie I’m pretty excited about writing in it, sad I know!

Seeing vintage furniture and other things inspire me to want to up cycle old furniture and put my own stamp on them like I’ve seen in Mollys Den! I think they can take your imagination on a ride imagining where its been before you owned it, like I said earlier like a little piece of history, at first this made me uneasy ‘who owned this?’ ‘is it clean?’ etc but I’m learning its easy enough to clean an item up and make it your own and to embrace its history.  Here are some of the other vintage things I have in my room, I don’t know whether there genuinely vintage but they look it and I love them. Some were in the loft and my mum didn’t want them so I adopted them and others are from my childhood which I once thought was babyish but I now think there just quirky and bring me good memories!
